Shell loses money from Nigerian operation
    North Korea Times
    Sunday 11th May, 2008

Royal Dutch Shell says it is losing the equivalent of 30,000 barrels of crude oil per day because of recent attacks against its installations in Nigeria.

The unrest in Nigeria, Africa's biggest oil producer, helped drive oil prices to a record high above 126 dollars on Friday.

Anglo-Dutch oil group Shell, Nigeria's largest oil operator, accounts for around half of the country's 2.1 million barrels per day output.

An upsurge in attacks on its facilities has forced it to cut back on production.

Niger Delta militant groups have sabotaged several supply pipelines owned by Shell and other oil operators in the restive region.

Overall, violence in the Niger Delta has reduced Nigeria's total production by a quarter in the past two years.

    MEND

Movement for the emacipation of the Niger Delta (MEND)had been wasting their precious time with Nigeria and Shell itself. Unless MEND destroys all the oil income resources in the Delta Region, there is no way Nigeria and Nigeria government will adhere to the resources control advocated by MEND. I am of the opinion that MEND should attack and destroy anything that has to do with Nigeria income in the Niger Delta

    MEND

The issue with these attacks is that the people that suffers more are Niger Deltans. The environment destroyed is Niger Delta. The people forced to die remain the Niger Delta people. There must be a better way. Visiting grievances of Govt on innocent people cannot be pursing the cause of all. Unfortunately now every dick and Harry carries on our cause with Kidnaps of innocent children and women, while MEND which initially led the way can not stop them. When will this all stop!
